As a hijabi, dressing for the beach can be a unique challenge. While some may prefer to showcase their skin in the sun, I’m more inclined towards maintaining my modesty while still enjoying the ocean’s waters. The typical beachwear of skin-tight leggings and tops doesn’t resonate with me either, as it feels too revealing. In an effort to strike a balance between comfort and coverage, this is how I currently dress for the beach:

#16.Palazzo Pants
Palazzo pants are the final must-have item on my list. For those of us who are shorter in stature, these pants can be especially beneficial as they create a lengthening effect. I’ve had success wearing them myself – for instance, I wore floral palazzo pants with a long cardigan to the beach and it was a cute yet modest look. On another occasion, I paired them with a structured leather jacket for a dressier appearance. The beige pair would also work well with a plain white tee.

#14. Hijab With Abaya
While many people associate the abaya with traditional Arabic attire, it’s entirely possible to incorporate this stunning garment into your beachwear ensemble. Consider pairing a flowy abaya dress with a pair of sunglasses and sandals for a stylish and unexpected beach look.
#13. Swim Wear
When it comes to dressing for a beach day while adhering to modesty standards, I’ve found that a long-sleeve black top made from spandex swimwear material is a great option. This type of fabric provides the perfect blend of comfort and coverage, ensuring my behind remains concealed without sacrificing style. For the hijab itself, I prefer to wear one made from chiffon material, as it allows for ease of movement while keeping my hair securely in place.
Avoiding materials like cotton is crucial, as they tend to absorb water and become uncomfortable when swimming. By opting for a chiffon hijab, I can enjoy the beach without compromising on my modesty.
#12. Winter Look
While a winter wonderland-inspired ensemble can make for a lovely beachside stroll, I do have some reservations about those high heels. Perhaps it’s time to swap them out for something more practical and comfortable, like loafers or sneakers.
#11. Modest Beach Outfits
For a comfortable and stylish ensemble, consider lightweight fabric and loose-fit designs. Harem pants with wide legs and cropped silhouettes tick all the boxes. If you prefer a more feminine look, opt for flared long skirts featuring elastic or adjustable drawstring waistlines for added flexibility. For a chic and relaxing outfit, pair loose-fit tunics or babydoll tops with bold accessories and add a pop of colour with summer flats like bright flip-flops, pretty sandals (wedge sandals included!
), or candy-coloured pumps.
#10. Jumpsuits
Make the most of your jumpsuit by incorporating fun colours and patterns into your outfit. As a one-piece wonder, this fashion staple is perfect for busy women who need to look great while on-the-go. Its versatility also makes it an excellent choice for outdoor activities. To elevate your look, pair your jumpsuit with a large straw hat worn over a stylish bandana. Add some chunky yet lightweight accessories and you’re ready to take on the day in style!
